The X-ray image is of a complicated ankle condition prior to surgery. The patient suffered from severe post-traumatic arthritis with distal tibia and fibula mal-union. The “state-of-the-art” total ankle replacement designed for this patient required a stem position to be eccentrically placed medially on the tibial plate and long enough to engage the proximal portion of the tibia bone stock. The patient underwent total ankle replacement surgery a year ago and is extremely satisfied.
