“STATE OF THE ART” TOTAL ANKLE REPLACEMENT

 Dr. Buechel’s 4-step process:

  1. Patient has a consultation and evaluation by Frederick F. Buechel, M.D., and a determination is made whether the patient is a candidate for surgery.  Dr. Buechel will complete a prescription based on the patient’s x-rays and other determining factors.

  2. The prescription is forwarded the Engineering Department at the manufacturer’s facility.  The Engineering Department submits formal drawings for engineering input by M. Pappas, Ph.D.  They are then returned to Dr. Buechel to approve the final design.

  3. The device is manufactured to the specifications designed for the patient and a representative from the manufacturer contacts South Mountain Orthopaedic Associates with a date when the device will be ready.  The patient is contacted and a surgical date is arranged.

  4. The ankle implant is manufactured to the exact specifications of the prescription and is delivered to the hospital for the surgery.
